Introduction

In a nutshell, I’m a programmer who also likes to do design work as well. I grew up in the northern town of Gympie, and after Highschool moved here to Brisbane to study at QUT full-time. 2008 is the final year of my double-degree bachelors of Creative Industries and Infomation Technology. I’m looking forward to entering the video games industry, not just because I’ve played video games for a solid chunk of my life, but because I love the stories they tell in their own unique, interactive way.

 Where I’d like to go

My interests in the games industry are in the areas of programming and/or design. Something along the lines of Tools Programmer or Level Designer would be a great start. My skills are orientated towards being a Programmer, but my CI bachelor has given me a lot of interest in being a Designer of some variety. Ideally I’d like to aim for a job that combines my skills with handling code with my love of designing things, something that bridges the gap between the technical and design aspects of the production process.

While I admire indie games (like the wonderfully 8-bit Cave Story) I’m very much aware that games production is a team effort in this day and age. All my past experiences with teamwork have been good and I’ve learnt a lot about communicating with my teammates and keeping track of goals. I’m looking forward to participating in a team to help put together a game, because I want to be a part of that creative process that elevates a game from just an amusing toy to a genuinely rewarding interactive experience for the player.

Drink Driving Simulator

Drink Driving Simulator

“Drunkraft” / Drink Driving Simulator

In 1st Semester 2008 I was part of a team project to create a virtual environment. Our aim was to create a driving simulator that gave players an impression of the impairements that alcohol can have on your vision and response times. The finished prototype has a slider to control the BAC level and a fairly large miniature town to drive around in. The environment was modelled in Maya and programmed in Quest3D.

Leonardo Ink Editor

Leonardo Ink Editor

Leonardo

A personal C# project I’ve been working on in my spare time. It’s a graphical tool for drawing and editing vector images in the Microsoft Ink format. I designed it to be able to use the “handwriting” feature of Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger) to send drawings to my friends. Right now it’s at version 1.0, and replicates all the basic features found in the built-in handwriting tool, plus a few extra.

Available for download here (Windows only, earlier than Vista requires the .Net Framework 2.0)

Zero Hour

Zero Hour

An arcade-style Flash game I created back in 2005 for my first CI design unit. It’s a mix between Space Invaders and Pong, where your objective is to keep bouncing the blue ball into enemies while avoiding running into the enemies yourself. It’s a bit dated now but it’s still a fairly neat little Flash game.

 Contact

I prefer email communication but I’m also available on my mobile number. I’m also open for suggestions if there are any interesting events here in Brisbane I should check out.

Technical Experience

I’m very technical minded and I’d consider myself fairly quick at learning new tools and programming languages. Here’s some previous experience I’ve had:

  • C/C++, C# with Visual Studio 2005
  • openGL + glut (also currently studying DirectX shaders)
  • Adobe Flash (formerly Macromedia Flash MX)
  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc
  • Autodesk Maya
  • PHP, (x)HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript, SQL, some Apache work
  • Designing for various browsers (IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Lynx, Google Chrome)
